Moving day. If you have ever completed a move, chances are you know how hectic planning can be leading up to the actual day of your move. With all of the packing and preparation before the move, it can be easy to lose track of what has been done and what is still left to do. Yet through it all, moving is still a process, one that requires a good, detailed plan of action that usually all comes together during the week before you move.
In the final week before your official moving day, there are key points you want to address to make sure your move will go smoothly. As you enter into the earlier part of the week before you move, check in with all of the participants of your move. Whether you are using a moving company, moving yourself or enlisting the help of friends and family, make sure you have all of the items and resources you need in order to complete your move.
By double checking on all of the details a week in advance, you are able to verify and make sure that all of your moving plans are still locked in for your moving day and you help to eliminate the possibility for unexpected last minute surprises. If you have booked a moving company way in advance, this is an especially good measure to take to ensure that no one has cancelled your reservation by mistake or overbooked your reserved moving truck.
During the week before you move, do a walkthrough of your home or apartment to make sure that you have not missed any important details in the packing process. Look for any areas that you need to finalize so that you still have time in the week before you move to address any last minute issues.
If you still have food in your refrigerator that has not been used, and you have no way to transport or store the food properly, make provisions or arrangements to give the food to friends or family or consider donating the food to a shelter. This will provide a way for you to prepare your refrigerator for the move, preserve valuable food in the process and help someone else who can benefit from it.
Check on all of your disconnection dates to make sure that your providers have the correct date of disconnection for your utilities and services. Chances are, everything is fine, but checking on the details ahead of time gives you the guarantee and added reassurance that you are doing your due diligence in preparation for your move.
If professional movers will be helping you with your move, make sure that you check over the path that the movers will use to move your belongings and furniture so that you know they will have a clear path to walk through while conducting and completing your move.
Pick out outfits and clothing to wear during the week before your move, so that you will have outfits to wear to work and during the time you are getting settled after your move. This will save you precious time and stress from having to hunt through boxes looking for shoes or other needed items at the last minute on a work day.
