Everyone knows that there are different seasons that occur throughout the year. And, if you are like most people, you probably have different sets of clothes depending on the weather and what time of year it is. Also, if you are like most people, the thought probably goes through your head at some point, “What am I going to do with all of my extra clothes I am not using?” Listed below are some tips to help you prepare you clothes for seasonal storage.

Plastic Bins- Plastic bins are a great option for seasonal storage. They provide plenty of space, while keeping your clothing neat and organized. Once all clothing is packed in containers, make sure they are tightly sealed to prevent wear and tear during storage. Place the bins in a safe and secure location and label them. You can even take it a step further. Rotate your containers based on what season of the year is approaching. This will allow easy access to the clothes that are closest to being in season.

Rent a Storage Unit- Many moving companies offer both short-term and long-term storage options that include the use of portable units. Many of these units contain interior that will protect against things like rust and mildew. If your storage unit is spacious enough, you will be able to put your labeled boxes in their own areas inside the units. Your winter clothes will not have to get mixed in with your summer clothes.

Don’t Forget to Donate- You might be reading this and thinking, “The tips above will help me, but at the end of the day, I still think that I am going to have too many clothes and not enough space.”  Say the D word, DONATE. If you cannot use all of your clothes, there probably is someone out there who can. Lend a helping hand to someone in need.  One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Wash Clothes Before Wearing Them Again- Regardless of the method of storage you choose for seasonal clothing, remember to wash all clothing before wearing them again. This will clean your clothes, while getting any wrinkles out of them that may have been caused during storage.

Along with food and water, clothes are considered to be one of the basic necessities of life. We will always need them no matter what time of year it is. Hopefully the above tips will help you keep your clothes in good condition while they are in storage.
