Many people choose to make the move from a house to an apartment.  Maybe your kids have moved away, it might be a better financial situation, it is a temporary transition until you find a new house, or maybe its personal preference.  No matter the reason, the fact is there will be a lot of new things to get used to when downsizing to an apartment.  Here are 5 things to keep in mind when moving from a house to an apartment.

Everything is Not Going to Fit
When you live in a house you begin to accumulate things over time.  Those unused items end up getting shoved in attics, garages, or basements.  However, when you move into an apartment you are going to have much less space for storage, so it is time to start thinking about what you want to bring with you and what to leave behind.

Consider the Size of Your Furniture
Obviously all of the furniture from your home is not going to fit into your apartment, but measure staple items like your sofa, kitchen table, and bedroom furniture to be sure it will fit.  You might have to replace some of these items with smaller pieces depending on the size of your apartment.

Consider Your Storage Options
Of course you should purge plenty of unnecessary items before moving into your apartment, but that doesn’t mean you have to get rid of everything.  Extra furniture, bikes, camping gear, outdoor tools, and other important belongings are perfectly fine to keep.  That said you are not going to have a place to store those large and bulky items at your apartment.  Consider renting a storage unit where you can keep your items safe and secure for future use.

Don’t Forget About Fido
If you have pets it is important to check with your apartment to make sure it is pet friendly.  There would be nothing worse than getting all moved in only to find that your furry friend is not welcome.

You Will Need to Get Creative with Space
An apartment can feel a bit small at times, especially if you are used to living in a house.  However, there are plenty of great ways to make the most out of your small space.  From kitchen organization to putting together the perfect patio, all it takes is a little organization and creativity to turn your small space into a beautiful home.
